In 2001 SEO/BirdLife, the oldest nature conservation charity in Spain, created the company Riet Vell S.A. in order to promote bird-friendly organic farming production and marketing. Parc Naturel du Delta de l'Ebre

Le Delta de l'Ebre nous offre un cadre naturel incomparable, unique et singulier. Un site d'une grande richesse biologique qui accueille une faune et une flore d'une diversité et d'une valeur inestimables. Avec une superficie de 320 km2, il constitue l'habitat aquatique le plus étendu du territoire catalan et représente un habitat d'une importance vitale parmi les zones humides de la Méditerranée.
Sa richesse biologique constitue un contrast avec la forte influence de l'home et les transformations agricoles réalissées sur une gran partie de son territoire.



Afin de rendre possible l'harmonie entre les valeurs naturelles de la région et son exploitation par l'homme, le Gouvernement catalan a constitué en 1983 le Parc Naturel du Delta de l'Ebre. Son importance est reconnue à l'échelle internationale par les organismes spécialisés les plus prestigieux. Le paysage du delta possède une forte personalité. Les terres totalement planes lui confèrent un aspect peculier. Les étendues rizières, changeantes selon les saisons, dominent la physionomie du Delta.



Du côté du litoral nous trouvons l'un des paysages les plus beaux de la Méditerranée: des grandes lagunes entourées de cannaies et de jonchaies. Vers la périphérie nous trouvons de grandes étendues de sols salins avec des marais salants et des plages longues et désertes, des dunes couronnées de rouseaux des sables et d'autres plantes bien adaptées au milieu.

The Ebro Delta Natural Park

The Ebro delta is an area transformed by the acction of man.Such a biologicaly important area coexists with a large population (50.000 people) and huge agricultural development. about 75% of the Delta is taken up by crop fields.
The Catalan governement ( La Generalitat de Catalunya) passed and act in 1983 setting up The Ebro Delta Natural Park (7.736 Ha)inn order to find a balance between its natural value and its exploitation by men.Such an Act was ratified and expanded by Act 332/1986 of third of October 1986.

The natural habitats are: lagoon, rice fields and reedbeds.
Typical birds. ducks, waders, coots, moorhens, herons, gulls,whiskered tern and birds of prey.

El Delta és la zona humida més important de Catalunya i es configura com un immens triangle —gairebé una illa— envoltat d’aigua i unit a terra ferma per la que fou l’antiga línia de costa. Un espai on les barreres entre cel i terra, terra i aigua, aigua dolça o salada, camps de conreu o vegetació autòctona es confonen.

Eine Nacht- und Nebelaktion

Es war im Jahr 1983 , als in einer Nacht-und Nebelaktion versucht wurde, die Lagune des Canal Vell , eines der verbliebenen Naturreservate, Trockenzulegen, um neue Flächen für den Reisanbau zu gewinen.Dieser ilegale Akt muss so etwas wie der berühmte Tropfen gewesen sein, der das Fass zum Überlaufen bringt, er war jedenfalls ein Wendepunkt in der Delta-Politik. Die hatte bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt entweder selbst nach rein ökonomischen Gesichtspunkten gehandelt oder aber den Druck privater, wirtschaftlicher Interessen nachgegeben.

Als sich dann ein Teil der Bevölkerung von Deltebre gegebendiesen gesetzwidrigen Übergriff wehrte und eine resolution verfasste, sah sich die Generalitat von Catalunya veranlasst, einzugreifen und damit den jahrzehntelangen regionalen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen den verschiedensten Interessengruppen ein Ende zu bereiten. Endlich wurden klare Verhältnisse geschaffen, und und schliesslich 1986 die gründung des Naturparks Ebrodelta deschlossen. Seitdem stehen knapp ein Viertel der Gesamfläche, nämlich 7.736 von 32.000 Ha unter besonderem gesetzlichen Schutz. Eine öhhkologisch motivierte Gegenbewegung entstand, welche die eigennützig handelnde Landwirtsschaft in ihrem starken Expansionsdrang bremsen konnte.

Für diese Initiative stehen heute sowohl das Informationszentrum des Naturparks Ebrodelta in Deltebre als auch in die Casa de Fusta , ein ehemaliges Jägerhaus, in dem sich ein Museum betreffend, befindet. Dass auch in Zukunft Handlungsbedarf bestehen wird im sensiblen Grenzgebiet zwischen wirtschaflichen Interessen und verletzlicher Biosphäre. darüber sind sich alle Beteilichten einig. Zumal beide Bereiche einem ständigen Wandel unterworfen sind: die Reisproduktion nicht anders als die Ökologie dieser Landschaft.
